Central Queensland’s Mackenzie May Releases Debut EP ‘All The Little Things’
The rising singer-songwriter stepped boldly forward with her first collection of songs released in March, punctuating her fast rise in the Australian country scene.
19-year-old Mackenzie May has had a huge 2026, ticking off multiple bucket-list items, from releasing her debut EP ‘All The Little Things’, to becoming a Toyota Starmaker Finalist at this year’s Tamworth Country Music Festival and making her CMC Rocks debut. This October will see her grace the stages at yet another big festival, Mareeba’s Savannah In The Round.
May grew up in a small regional town in Queensland, about a six hour drive from the state capital, absorbing the traditional country and roots influences of her grandparents’ record collection and was discovered at a talent quest while still in high school.
Her debut seven-track EP, which debuted at #2 on the ARIA Australian Country Albums chart follows her first single ‘Little Things’ which established her as a hot new talent in the Australian scene upon its release in late 2024, achieving over half a million streams and landing her in the Australian Countrytown Hot 50 radio airplay chart. Mackenzie also won the Queensland Music Award for Best Youth Artist in 2025, plotting what has been a sharp career rise in such a short period of time.
May’s debut EP takes the audience through a narrative of love and loss, with issues like cost of living in the lead single If It Wasn’t For The Money and noticing the little things in life (in Little Things, Mackenzie’s first big single). The songs make way for an incredible four-song cycle plotting the stages of a relationship journey through joy, romance and loss, starting with Be Careful Who You Fall in Love With, sage relationship advice from an elder.
The journey of young love continues with Old School Kind Of Love, before tracking the path of a relationship on the rocks in Not Like He Used To. The breakdown of the relationship is complete with I’ll Take It All, before the EP comes to a close with the emotional Take Care Of Her For Me. Written for the passing of Mackenzie’s Nan, the touching closing track is a tribute to the source of life advice and the inspiration of her love of country music. It is a fitting end to a release that takes new fans on a true journey, rich in lyrical emotion far beyond Mackenzie’s years.
The EP finds Mackenzie May refining her artistic voice with striking clarity. Recorded with collaborator Jared Adlam (James Johnston, Lee Kernaghan), the rich tapestry of songs is a set of country anthems with heart and depth- full of grit, grace, and emotional honesty.
“The EP is about embracing every part of life - the chaos, the calm, the heartbreak, the beauty,” Mackenzie shares. “It’s me saying: don’t just give me the easy parts, I want it all.”
That hunger for authenticity has shaped her latest creative journey, as she’s spent time absorbing the storytelling craft of artists like Kacey Musgraves, Lucinda Williams and Chris Stapleton, honing her sound into something that feels truly her own.
