At just 16 years of age, proud Gomeroi singer-songwriter Kyla Belle is already making waves with her debut single ‘Myself’ - a moody, carefree country track that threads notes of pop and tradition with the spirit of teenage discovery.
Industry heavyweights have been quick to notice Kyla’s songwriting prowess. “I was shown a video of Kyla Belle the other day and was blown away!” says global sensation G Flip. Meanwhile, Thelma Plum shares, “I love your music. I have been listening to your songs all morning and I think you’re just so deadly darling.”
‘Myself’ is the song that recently earned Kyla the winning title of the coveted Triple J Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative 2025, setting her firmly on the map as one of Australia’s brightest emerging artists. Written from her bedroom floor, the breezy bop highlights the quirks of teenage hood.
“It’s about being a teenager who isn't exactly sure about what they want to do in life,” tells the singer-songwriter. “How everyone expects me to know what I want to do. I wanted to express how I feel about my music and everyday life and how I'm more of an advocate for whatever happens in life happens.”
Kyla made the eight-hour drive from her home in Moree to record the track in Sydney with producer Fabien Bethuizeau. She laid down her vocals and guitar, while Fabien added drums, bass and slide guitar. The track was then mixed by US engineer Michael Freeman and mastered by the legendary Joe LaPorta (Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood).
The single arrives with a playful, one-take inspired video - shot at Sydney’s Killa Kreative Studio by Four:Three - echoing Taylor Swift’s ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’. The clip captures Kyla’s teenage spirit, her self-discovery, and the universal questions we all ask as we grow up.
Beyond the studio, Kyla has already performed to massive audiences. Her NAIDOC Week performance of ‘I Am Australian’ has clocked over 2.5 million views, and this November she will appear as a featured soloist in the NSW School Spectacular at Qudos Bank Arena, performing across four shows.
‘Myself’ is also the first taste of Kyla’s forthcoming 2026 EP, which will showcase her unique mix of youthful honesty, natural musicality, and a sound that bridges country, pop and beyond.
